[edit] General Purpose

The Model Schools Wiki is intended to build a community of users that increases and improves the use of technology for learning. Initially built as a resource for educators to learn to use technology (i.e. - tutorials) it is intended to create it as a resource for the infusion of technology. For each article that is posted, the community is challenged with providing resources, ideas, strategies, best practices and examples of infusion of the technology under the discussion tab.

[edit] Improving the Main Page

I agree, if this is going to be useful it needs to be easy. Also how can we integrate Mac vs. PC and a resource for what goals you have with software. For example if I am looking to have students create videos where might I go to see what software is out there and what is considered good?

  • How can the Main Page be formatted to make it more intuitive for users to navigate to articles/course guides?
    • Working on adding a "tabbed" menu bar to the main page for easier navigation.
    • Adding a section directing teachers to clearly marked search area and index page
    • Details regarding the articles (how to) and discussion (implementation information)
  • How can the article and discussion pages be improved?
    • Consistent format
    • Consistent image size
    • Differentiate OS for software in the index (Mac only, PC only or both)
  • How can we share this with key people in our districts, across NYS, nationally and globally?
    • Promotion at conferences (STC, NYSCATE, NECC, ASCD, etc.)
    • Continued use for professional development courses
    • E-mails to key technology integrators, coordinators, directors and well-known speakers
    • Continued development, upkeep and improvement based on user feedback
    • Provide training/workshops on use of wiki's in the classroom

Stuff to work on General Information about Course Guides
For your convenience in the wiki we will use one of two methods for explaining the menu items. One will be using pictures to show which buttons to select on the screen, the other will be to use bold lettering when you need to go to a certain menu. If there is a series of steps we will use the greater than > symbol to indicate a second step.

  • Add a links page (with section on MainPage) for commonly asked for resources such as free music sites.

  • Create articles based on concepts or ideas (i.e. - Digital Storytelling and link out to tools to create digital stories, like Photo Story, Movie Maker, iPhoto, & iMovie.

After looking through some of the articles here I think that we should create a Category that would show what articles need work. --Tadgeob 16:24, 9 December 2006 (EST)

It would also make sense to check out the Orphaned Pages (Special:Lonelypages) to make sure that we eliminate non used pages or correct their usage. --Tadgeob 20:59, 12 January 2007 (EST)

It would be nice to be able to break out Notes in sections using italicized notes areas and then it would neat to put line breaks above and below. Something like this
