distance learning - n. learning that takes place via electronic media linking instructors and students who are not together in a classroom.

Distance learning is available in many formats for our RAITN Distance Learning school districts. Schools are connected via IP, I2 or ISDN lines. Most of our classrooms have changed from the original permanent classrooms to Polycom units that can be moved almost anywhere is a school buiding or in district buildings. RAITN, live interactive Distance Learning allows students to see and talk with students and teachers from other sites. At any one time, multiple combinations of schools can be connected for live video and audio interactions.

Instructional programming includes academic courses, staff development workshops, video conferencing, inter-district meetings, field trips, and authentic learning experiences.
