[edit] OLD CONTENT
Ed Video Online you can simply go to the search window at the top of the page and enter your search term.
You have a few different choices on what to search for:
- Video
- Audio
- Images
- Print resources
- Podcasts
Once you have entered your search term and clicked on go you will see a list of different content depending on your search parameters. The following example shows how search results are listed if the entire site is searched.
You will notice that the search breaks down the segments that were found into types, then content strands.
Once you click on a title you will be brought to a page about the media. One the first line you will notice that there is a short synopsis of the medias focus. As you scroll down you will also notice that there is an option to play the media or download the media. Even further down the movie is broken down into clips for focused viewing.
If you click on the play link you will open a new page in your browser and you will be able to watch the video right inside of the browser. You will notice that underneath the screen you have the option to view the media in Full Screen, if for some reason you don't see this button you can right click on the video and select Zoom>Full Screen.
You also have the option to download the video if you would like. By clicking on the Download to your local computer link you will be brought to a screen that allows you to download the video. You can also change the format of the download in case you are working on a Macintosh computer and only have Quicktime. To change the format of the video simply click on the link labeled Change download file format. This will open up an area that will allow you to change the file format that you are downloading. Note: This will only change the download for this instance.
[edit] Classes
So you have a Biology and Earth Science class and want to be able to organize the videos and other resources for each of these classes so that you don't confuse the students. By using the Classes area you can do this. To start by clicking the Create/edit classes link.
You will be brought to a screen that either lists the classes you have already created, or asks if you would like to add a class.
To add classes click on the blue plus sign + on the right hand side of the screen labeled Create. This will open a new screen that allows you to enter the name of the class, select a school give, select a time, and give a description. Once you have filled out the form simply click on the Save button at the bottom of the page.
Now you can begin to add class specific content to the Ed Video Online site. You have four choices on the type of content to create.
- Media
- This allows you to create playlist to use with the class you are creating.
- Lesson Plans
- Just as you might plan out a lesson using some structure Ed Video Online gives your this option.
- Assignments
- This allows you to create assignments for students and deliver the media directly related to the assignment.
- Assessments
- This allows you to create quizzes related to content that you students have worked with.
Once you have created a lesson plan you will want to add it to a class. You will see at the bottom of the page a link to add to class. By clicking on this link you will be brought to a page that lists your existing classes, or you can create a class for the lesson plan.
[edit] Media
You will notice that under Media Lists one of the options is to create playlists. This allows you to create class specific playlists or more general playlists that students can access. You can do this with either the videos within the collection or with images.
When you get to the playlist page you will see an option to create a class specific playlist, or playlists unassociated with classes. When you click on the add playlist link a dialog box will appear asking you to enter a playlist name. Enter the name you would like for the playlist and then click the save button. Now you should a link with the title you just entered.
Now it is time to search for media and add it to the playlist. By using the search box at the top of the page you can search using keywords to find the kind of media you would like. After you click search you will see a list of the available titles. Once you click on a title this is when you will see the options to add the clip, or segments of the clip to your playlists.
Once you check the box, simply click save and your video file will be added to the playlist. Note: You will be taken back to your playlist screen once you have clicked save.
You can also add clips from a single video or multiple videos to a playlist. To do this search for the film that you want and decide on which clips of that video you would like to use. Once you know which clips you want to use click on the link under Segments labeled, Add multiple segments to: Playlist. This will bring you to a page that lists all of the individual segments of the video simply check the boxes next to the segment that you would like to use. Once you have selected the clips scroll to the bottom of the page and click on the Next button. This will bring you back to your Playlists where you need to choose which playlist to add the segments to by again marking the specific checkbox. Then click on the Save button and you media will be added to your playlist.

[edit] Assignments
If you wanted to create an assignment for a class you can do so by either going to the class and clicking on the Assignment tab
or choosing assignment from the Power Media Plus home page. To create your first assignment you will want to click on the Create button. This will bring you to a screen that allows you to create the actual assignment.
You will need to fill out the Title and Grade(s) section of the assignment form. The other information is optional. Once you have this information filled on you will want to scroll down to begin creating your actual assignment.
There are four sections that you can add to in the assignment:
- Summary of Topic
- Instruction/Activity
- Media To Be Used
- Assessment
To begin adding to one of these sections you will want to click on the Pencil
, which will open a simple editor so that you can begin to create the assignment for your students.
You will notice that with this editor you can use the bold, italicized, link, and lists buttons to edit your text. The last button in the row that looks like this < > is if you want to work with the HTML code underneath. You probably won't need this button at all.
Once you have finished add information that pertains to the assignment that you want your class to participate in you need to click on the Finished Editing button. This will close the editing window and show your completed section. Each of the sections can be edited in much the same way. You can also add sections that apply to your class or delete sections that you don't need.
After completing the sections that you need you will want to either click Save & finish or Save & add state standards. I would most likely click the first option since you can always go back and add the standards.
Once you have created the assignment you can add it to a specific class by going to the assignment, selecting the assignment from your list of assignments, and
[edit] Assessments
Create a new assessment, fill in top area, start to fill out initial question, adding answers, select correct answer then click on the Save Question button.
Once you have created one question I would save the quiz so that you can continue working without worrying about loosing your initial created quiz. Remember to save often.
