[edit] About the Community
- What are our community goals?
- To develop a professional learning community to share knowledge within our common roles
- To strive for quality and consistent resources for the infusion of technology in K-12 curriculums.
- To provide knowledge of not only skills on how to use technology, but how to use it to enhance instruction and learning.
- What are our community standards?
- We require a login for users in order to build a known community. Users are asked to create an account using a recognizable username as well as to update their User page.
- Who is our community?
- The Model Schools community consists of teachers, administrators and educational technology leaders. In addition, the community should be open to including students or groups of students to use as well as contribute to the wiki resource.
- What are other things that need to be considered to create a professional community looking at educational best practices to promote student achievement?
- How do things look, feel, what about navigation?
- Users should use headings to break up sections however as sparingly as possible
- What happens with the growth?
- How do we maintain a community?
- How do we educate our user community and our creator community?
- What kind of categories should we create?
- Can we point this to other servers at other BOCES or places for support?
- What kind of technical support do we need (man power=$)?
- How can students use this and how do we create a safe space?
This could be a very powerful area if done correctly. Looking at the Wikipedia's Community Page as an example this is a place to start peer review of the articles and add to the sustainability of this project. Whether there are techs that are helping teachers with their Lotus Notes questions, or teachers helping other teachers use technology in the classroom, this is the place to build that community. Here would be a great way to increase the validity of the wiki.
Buy-in by the Tech Directors at the component districts might be a start - solicit their input to see how/when/why they would use it. - Dave
