EasyGPS is a free software application that makes sending and receiving GPS data from your GPS receiver very easy. Below is a brief overview on how to get started using EasyGPS with your GPS receiver.

Contents

[edit] Download & Installation

Download EasyGPS and run the installer to load the application onto your computer. If you need administrative rights to install applications onto your computer, be sure to contact your technology department for assistance.

Tip: Plan ahead and be sure to make any requests well ahead of time as technology departments are typically stretched and your request may take a few days.

[edit] Setup EasyGPS & GPS Receivers

Once installed, you'll need to set EasyGPS up to communicate with your particular GPS unit (in this case, the unit is a Garmin Geko 201 GPS). First, click on Edit > Preferences to access EasyGPS' preferences menu (the images below may look slightly different than your version of EasyGPS).

You should not have to change any of the communications settings, however, if you need assistance with this please refer to the Geko 201 Manual or the EasyGPS website for more information.

[edit] Sending & Receiving Data

Sending/receiving data to and from your GPS unit is as easy as connecting the GPS and pressing either the Send or Receive buttons in the toolbar at the top of your screen.

[edit] Sending to GPS

Click the Send button to send geocaches, waypoints, routes or tracks that you have downloaded from another GPS or another source (i.e. - website or other software application). When you click Send the Send to GPS pop-up window will display settings for adding data to your GPS. Be sure you have selected the correct GPS unit in the GPS Settings field in the Send to GPS settings box.

[edit] Receiving to GPS

If you have collected the geocaches, waypoints, routes or tracks manually (by marking yourself out in the field), you should use EasyGPS to import the data to a file where it can be transfered (see Sending to GPS above) to other GPS units. Be sure your GPS unit is connected correctly and it is selected in the GPS Settings and click Receive. This will download all the data you selected in the Receive from GPS settings into EasyGPS. At this time, be sure to save your EasyGPS file by clicking the Save button or File > Save in the menu bar.

If necessary, you can edit the coordinate format to match the formats from websites using the My Coordinate Formats tab in the Recieve from GPS settings window.

[edit] Managing Files

Organizing your GPS data may seem like an extra step, but using the application effectively you can manage learning experiences by creating different sets of waypoints for different GPS units, ensuring variety of the experience.

[edit] Opening Files

To access files that you have already created, click File > Open.... Next navigate to the folder or directory where you last saved your EasyGPS file. Once you find the file, click Open. You should see any data that you saved from your last EasyGPS session.

[edit] Saving Files

To save your file, click the Save button or click File > Save. Be sure to remember where to save your file in a location where you can easily retrieve it.

Tip: Create a new folder titled GPS Data to store EasyGPS files
