Project
Working with the Conservation Through Public Health [1] organization, Monroe #1 BOCES is exploring how it might connect work being done by CTPH with students within Monroe #1 BOCES component districts. Initially, piloting with a group of elementary students, Technology Services staff will explore various ways to communicate with students, scientists and community members near the Bwindi Impenetrable Rainforest.

Logistics
- Time Difference
There is a +6:00 time difference from Uganda to the East Coast. Use the World Time Converter to determine the time in Uganda from New York.
- Bandwidth
Bandwidth available in Uganda is very limited. Considerable understanding is needed when connecting to remote locations such as Uganda.
Curriculum
Many curricular areas may apply to events and experiences related to the Conservation Through Public Health effort. Several ideas are outlined on the CTPH: Connection Ideas.
Communication
Possible means of communication between parties in Uganda and the United States:
- Synchronous
- Text chat - IM has been most reliable
- Audio chat - Audio was delayed approximately 10 secs (determined via basic count test between Monroe #1 Tech Services and Telecenter in Bwindi)
- Video chat -
- Web-based Tools -
- Asynchronous
- Wiki
- Weblog
Technology
A variety of technologies will be used in order to collect and share data as well as to communicate between Uganda and the United States.
Note:There will be some time needed to help the teachers in Uganda to update their skills in technology to share their information digitally.
Probes
Pasco science probes will be used to collect data related to the ecology of Bwindi and the area in and around Monroe County schools.
Samples to be Collected:
- pH (Manual)
